An interlock is a device installed in a motor vehicle to prevent the driver from operating the car if they have been drinking alcohol. The interlock is designed to measure the driver’s blood alcohol content (BAC), and if it detects that the BAC is above a certain level, the vehicle will not start.
While the interlock is designed to detect alcohol, it will not detect other substances, such as caffeine, which is the primary active ingredient in coffee. Therefore, it is generally safe to drink coffee while using an interlock device. Remember that consuming other substances that contain alcohol, such as mouthwash or certain medications, may trigger the interlock and prevent the vehicle from starting.
Make sure to read the instructions that come with the interlock device and to follow any advice or warnings from the manufacturer or your probation officer.
